Chennai has a tropical climate for most parts of the year. Though there are many species of plants which prefer a cooler temperature all round and therefore may not survive, the ones that can cope here are so many - and they seem to thrive in the high humidity of our sea-side city.
As the saying goes in Chennai, for six months of the year it is HOT in Chennai - and for the other six months? - it is HOTTER !
However the slight variations in the bi-seasonal temperatures encourage blooms in certain species during peak summer from March to October and others the not-so-hot periods from November to February. And of course keeping a constant presence are the bright perennials.
